Green Homes Grant

Up to £5,000 for home improvements is available to Henley homeowners and landlords through the government’s Green Homes Grant. Work must be completed by 31 March 2022. To receive a grant you must apply for vouchers of two thirds of your eligible costs, up to a maximum of £5,000.  Higher amounts for up to 100% of improvements are available to applicants on some low income benefits.

Concerns have been expressed locally and nationally about the practicalities of the Green Homes Grant. There has been a huge response and this has meant that suppliers and contractors have become overwhelmed. You may like to look at Martin Lewis's MoneySavingExpert website for the latest news. But we understand that the government is aware of the issues and working to improve the service, and we hope that things improve over the course of 2021.

You might then also want to consider the Cosy Homes Oxfordshire scheme.  There is no government grant, but you get a wider-ranging service that manages the project for you.  Contact Cosy Homes here.

If you do decdie to go ahead with Green Homes Grant improvements could include insulating your home to reduce your energy use or installing low-carbon heating to lower the amount of carbon dioxide your home produces. For example, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, a ground source heat pump or a biomass boiler.  Work to property in the Conservation Area of Henley-on-Thames will require planning permission for some types of improvement.  You can check whether your home improvement requires planning permission at the Planning Portal Interactive House

The government website with further details is live and applications are open.

You can also find the Climate Emergency Working Group on facebook and twitter.
